The slovak name of the willage was for the first time recorded in the year 1469 as Trztené and then it was changed into Trszteno, Trsstena, Trstenno, in 1920 Trstenô and from the year 1925 Trstené. It was also used the hungarian name Nadasd, resp. in the year 1269 Náásd.

Map of surroundings of village Trstené

The oldest written report about the village of Trstené (Nadasd) is from the year 1269, when king Belo IV. gave this settlement of Trstené to the district administrator Bogomír. In papers of Bogomír II. from the 13th. to the 15th. century there is repeatedly the name of this village as Nadasd – in the slovak language it means reed. There were many swamps on this territory where this plant grew.
